Spiritual Reflection – TWENTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME (B)

In his teaching Jesus highlights a problem, if you like, with practice the of faith. Those who are diligent, externally faithful, dutiful and adhere to the rules can appear as holy and righteous. In truth, many are, because how else do we witness to faith than by practicing it? But what if this practice of faith – these acts of piety, intend to express both our love of God and our neighbour – masks the true condition of our hearts, as we know was the case with many of the Pharisees in Jesus’ day?
