Nicholas Holmes was made an acolyte by Bishop Alan at a Mass in the Cathedral on Thursday 23rd September at 7.00 pm.
This sacred role in the life of the Church is described by Pope Paul VI thus:
The acolyte is appointed…to attend to the service of the altar and to assist the deacon and the priest in liturgical celebrations, especially in the celebration of Mass … He will perform these functions more worthily if he participates in the holy Eucharist with increasingly fervent devotion, receives nourishment from it, and deepens his knowledge about it.
A select band of friends and parishioners attended this Mass and helped lift Nicholas in prayer to the Lord as he continues his journey to ordination to the permanent diaconate on Saturday 9th July 2022.
