At the end of her earthly life, Mary was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory, a sign that death does not have the final word. In Mary, we see the first flowering of Christ’s victory over sin and death.
Mary’s greatness lay not in earthly success, but in her faithful “yes” to God’s will. She trusted when she did not fully understand, remained steadfast beneath the Cross, and rejoiced in the Resurrection of her Son. Because she gave herself completely to God, he brought to fulfilment the work of grace begun in her.
The Assumption invites us to lift our eyes beyond the concerns of today and to remember that we are pilgrims on the journey to heaven. It encourages us to live with hope, to persevere in faith, and to entrust ourselves to Mary’s loving care. She, who now reigns with Christ as Queen of Heaven, continues to pray for us, leading us always to her Son.
May this feast renew our confidence that where Mary has gone, we hope to follow. Let us ask her to help us live each day with hearts fixed on Christ, so that one day we may share with her the joy of eternal life.
